Help Wanted

You might be wondering how you can help out and contribute to the Letterpod. Letterboxers are a social community, and we want Letterpod to be the same way, with lots of ideas and contributions. Following are some ways you can help:

Ideas So maybe you have a great idea or a suggestion for a segment or a topic that you would like to hear on Letterpod. We want to hear about it, and the best way to contribute is to post your ideas on the Letterboxing_Podcast Yahoo Group.

Written Material Are you more of a writer then a talker? We need you too! Very little of what you would hear on Letterpod is spoken off the top of your head. For each segment, somebody wrote the stuff down and is reading it or referring to it as they record. So, if you don’t have the technical resources to record it yourself, you might consider writing a segment and contributing the piece for someone else to record for you.

Record an Intro Each episode of the podcast begins with “Hi, this is (trailname) from (place) and your listening to the Letterpod.” This is a way to give a shout-out to your hometown and boxers who might know you, or who don’t, but always wondered what you sounded like! You can record an intro by calling a free recording service, called Gabcast. We have our own area we can record to, and all you need is a telephone! First, email jackbear and let him know you want the password to record an intro for Letterpod. Then call 1-888-887-3127. Enter the Letterpod channel number which is 11349 #. Then you enter the password and then hit #. Then the voice prompts will tell you to press 1 to record a message. At the tone, record your intro and hit # when you are done. You can listen to it back, and change it if you goofed up. The message gets automatically saved, and it will be available to use in a future episode. Its easy!

Advice Our advice column, Dear Crabby, needs questions to answer! Ms. Crabby is happy to try to help you solve your problems, issues, or to sort out those sticky etiquitte dilemas. You can submit a written question, or you can record your question following the instructions above for “recording an intro.”

News Frequently, a “News” segment will be included in Letterpod. We need people to submit news items of interest to letterboxers. Maybe you have an upcoming event you would like to mention, a news story about a flood in your area, or a special project for our troops or a memorial box. Think of it as an audio blog of sorts, or perhaps an audio forum topic. Are you the next Joan Rivers gossip columnist? You can submit a written “press release” of sorts to jackbear, or you can record an “on the scene” report yourself to submit.

Music Do you have some musical talents? Every sound you hear on Letterpod, from the intro song to sound effects, has to be copyright free, or we have to have the consent of the owner to use. If you have recorded some of your own music, and would like to contribute it’s use for Letterpod, we would welcome your contribution, and give you full credit and eternal praise.

Spoken Word Oh, you always dreamed of being a DJ? You’ve come to the right place. The backbone of Letterpod is of course the people you hear on it. We need people who aren’t afraid to speak into a microphone (or are willing to get over that fear), who are letterboxers, and who have some sort of access to the means to record the work and get it into a digital file. If you have never done this before, check our our Podcasting Basics.

Video Did you shoot some video on a letterboxing adventure? Maybe you recorded folks at your local gathering? Oh, you want to shoot a tutorial video to showcase your letterboxing talents at making a logbook? We want your videos! These are very popular, and you’ll be an instant celebrity. You can send these to jackbear using YouSendIt (a free way to transfer large files).
